It was in 2002 that Kia Sorento was initially introduced in the markets. As years have passed by, this model was given unibody architecture with a new platform in 2010 which procured a healthy redesign.
Since then, this model has been very popular in several markets. The recent one was seen at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show which was dedicated for the 2015 model year. Now as part of the company’s plan to continue this model, 2018 Kia Sorento is making its way into the markets.
Although there is little or no official information about this 2018 Sorento, several experts and sources have tipped some suggestions which hold that a host of changes will be presented. It has also been said that this model will serve as a pathway for the next generation vehicles of the future.
2018 Kia Sorento – Engine Specs
From what the experts have been able to source out, the engines which have been used in the existing/current model will be carried over to this upcoming Sorento. This includes a 2.0 liters 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces a torque of 260 lb-ft and 240 hp of power.
Another unit is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine capable of producing a torque of 178 lb-ft and 185 hp of power. The most powerful one is a 3.3-liter V6 engine that can deliver an output of 252 lb-ft of torque and 290 hp of power.
A 6-speed automatic transmission system has been used for all of these engines along with a front-wheel drive configuration. But experts have also suggested that an optional Dynamax All-Wheel Drive is likely to be incorporated.
2018 Kia Sorento – Exterior and Interior Design
Although leaked images of the prototype model have already been surfacing, heavy camouflage has been done. But despite this, some experts and sources have been able to dig out some information about the changes incorporated into this new 2018 Kia Sorento.
As the front fascia has been heavily padded, its gives a hint that heavy changes are going to be incorporated. Most importantly, it has been said that the headlights will feature a new design.
Assumptions hold that the grille will be modified too, and it looks like the company could feature a bit of aggressiveness.The shape of this grille also suggests a honeycomb design. Heavy padding has also been done on the fenders which suggest that the wheel arches will be redesigned.
Unfortunately, the photographers have not been able to catch a glimpse of how the interior cabin of this 2018 Kia Sorento is going to look like. But be that as it may, some rumors have suggested that the makers will be focussing more towards luxury in this cabin.
Other than that, it has been said that design elements for this cabin will be borrowed from 2016 Kia Mohave. This also means that wood grain inserts are likely to be incorporated into the dashboard, steering wheel and door panels.
2018 Kia Sorento – Competitors, Price and Release Date
Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5 are going to be 2 of its main competitors. As the price of the current model starts from $27,500 for the base model, expect this pricing to remain the same. And as to its availability, this 2018 Kia Sorento could be out in mid-2017.
