2018 Honda CR-V Release Date, Price

For past few years, Honda CR-V has been the best-selling vehicle in the ever-growing compact crossover category. However, as more competitors are arriving every year with great driving dynamics and latest technologies, this model’s position as a top-selling model is getting weaker. In fact, the sales of Toyota RAV4 and Ford Escape are more than that of Honda CR-V in 2016. Honda will try to regain its lead with a redesigned model that could arrive as 2018 Honda CR-V. It is expected to offer great fuel efficiency, latest technology, more interior space and better driving dynamics. To become the best compact crossover, this model will have to overtake several tough competitors.

Platform:

The fifth generation of Honda CR-V crossover is likely to be based on a new platform that also underpins recently redesigned Honda Civic. This modular chassis of Civic will also be used on next generation of Honda Accord. Present CR-V model has a wheelbase of 103.1 inches and it is likely to increase to match 106.3 inches of wheelbase for 2016 Honda Civic. The basic architecture will slightly change for accommodating components of an all-wheel drive system, which will be optionally offered in this model.

2018 Honda CR-V – Exterior and Interior Changes

Few spy shots of Honda CR-V 2018 were recently released, and these pictures suggest a more upscale and sportier look. The front grille is larger and more aggressive than present model while the hood is also longer. This upcoming model’s stances will less like that of a minivan. The signature vertical taillights of CR-V have been used while the headlights seem to have been borrowed from an Acura model.

With increased length, there are some other changes. The new model will have an additional third-row seat which will be optionally offered. This extra row of seats has been offered to somewhat come closer to Honda Pilot, which is significantly larger. Other details about its interior are not available as of now, but Honda will surely give priority to spaciousness and practicality.

2018 Honda CR-V – Drivetrain

Given the fact that Honda has recently been so much into turbocharged technology, it seems that standard engine of 2018 Honda CR-V will also be turbocharged. It is likely to be a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged unit. This engine has been used in redesigned Civic model. However, for CR-V, this engine might be tuned a little to emphasize more on low-rpm torque. This is mainly because CR-V is a heavier model than Civic.

Although a 6-speed manual transmission will soon be offered with Civic lineup, the only choice for Honda CR-V seems to be a CVT auto transmission. Just like the previous model, all-wheel drive will be optionally offered while front-wheel drive will be standard.
