2018 Chevy Equinox Release Date, Redesign

Chevrolet Equinox was one of the highest selling SUVs across the USA. And the maker will look to cash in on those sales with the new 2018 Chevy Equinox Crossover. The crossover market has been leading car sales for the last few years and with the projected demand to increase in coming years, the 2018 Chevy Equinox will be effectively down-scaled from a large SUV that it is to a mid-size compact SUV keeping with customer needs.

2018 Chevy Equinox – Redesign Features

At least for American automakers, this seems to be the case. This car will be downsized radically to fit into a nascent crossover segment. It will be built on GM’s Delta in-cabin architecture which the new Cruze has adopted. This re-sizing strategy is what GM will undertake, not only for the Equinox but for the whole SUV segment to create a space between this compact new crossover and an upcoming full-size 8-seater Chevy Traverse.

Details of 2018 Chevy Equinox exteriors were well hidden under the camouflage vinyl which it wore while undergoing test runs in Germany. Front fascia will probably follow up from faces that 2016 Cruzes and Volts beamed with. Re-designed grilles and a sharper smarter rear-end are expected.

This model also will be fitted with Chevy’s market winning infotainment- Apple CarPlay and an integrated Android Auto Recognition, both of which might be made available from entry level models. Along with a 10” infotainment dashboard touchscreen and spices such as wireless phone charging, GM will definitely be trying to score high on tech points.

2018 Chevy Equinox – Engine and Better Economy

One of the major drawbacks of previous models despite their popularity was a poor fuel economy. And GM will most definitely try to upgrade in this new shortened model entering its third generation.

The engine is rumored to be based on the Buick Envision’s power unit. However, a smaller unit may finally be applied to this car given the needs for a predominantly urban customer base. That said, whichever engine is provided, high chances are that it will be tweaked to produce  better torque and equal horses to keep up with the enhanced performance which the crossover segment is popular for.

  • Engine – 2.4-liter Inline 4 182 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque

  • 3.6-liter V6 301 hp and 272 lb-ft of torque

  • Transmission – 6-speed automatic transmission

  • Suspension – FWD and AWD

Although it might seem to some enthusiasts that this new Chevy will come with Buick’s torque vectoring high-performance acceleration module. GM may not incorporate it into the crossover to make it more normal and pedestrian.

2018 Chevy Equinox – Release Date and Price

This new crossover is expected to be released sometime around Q1 or Q2 of 2017. However, these dates are based completely on conjectures. Whether GM will launch the crossover while surfing on its hype or wait upon further market structures to launch it, later on, depends completely on their strategy for the car.

That which can be confirmed is its pricing. Estimated to be between $23,500 and $37,000, it will slot in nicely to compete with crossovers which are already in the market, viz. – Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, and Mazda CX-5 etc.

Whether 2018 Chevy Equinox will be able to regain its popularity is a question which will remain unanswered. But it will definitely rack up some numbers and give the other crossovers a run for their money.
